Ek Villain

Story

The story follows Guru (Sidharth Malhotra), a hardened criminal who works for a local gangster. Guru’s world changes when he meets Aisha (Shraddha Kapoor), a bubbly and optimistic woman battling a terminal illness. Aisha brings light into Guru’s dark life, inspiring him to change his ways and live a life of love and kindness. However, their love story is tragically cut short when Aisha is brutally murdered. This tragic event propels Guru into a vengeful quest to find her killer.

Riteish Deshmukh, known for his comedic roles, surprises audiences with his portrayal of Rakesh, a seemingly meek and unhappy man leading a double life as a sadistic killer. Rakesh’s character adds a complex layer to the narrative. While he struggles with insecurities and frustrations in his personal life, he finds twisted satisfaction in murdering women, which gives him a sense of control over his crumbling existence. Deshmukh’s nuanced performance stands out and adds psychological depth to the film.

One of the strengths of  Ek Villain is its emotional intensity, driven by the compelling performances of the lead actors. Sidharth Malhotra, in his first dark and brooding role, delivers a solid performance as the anguished lover seeking revenge. His chemistry with Shraddha Kapoor makes their romance feel genuine, though Kapoor’s role is somewhat limited to the stereotypical “angelic” love interest. Nonetheless, her positive and uplifting presence is crucial to the film’s emotional tone.

The film’s narrative structure,

The film’s narrative structure, however, is not without its flaws. While the first half builds an intriguing emotional backdrop, the second half becomes more predictable as it dives into the familiar revenge thriller territory. The script sometimes lacks the subtlety needed for deeper character exploration, and certain plot twists feel forced.

Visually, the movie is a treat. Suri’s direction captures both the gritty underworld of Mumbai and the serene beauty of Goa, where Guru and Aisha love story blossoms. The cinematography is atmospheric, and the action sequences are well-executed, adding to the overall impact of the film. The film’s soundtrack, composed by Mithoon, Ankit Tiwari, and Soch, complements the narrative beautifully. Songs like “Galliyan” became chart-toppers, enhancing the film’s emotional pull. In conclusion, Ek Villain is an entertaining film that explores the themes of love, redemption, and the nature of good versus evil. While it may fall into certain clichés, the strong performances, particularly by Riteish Deshmukh, and its gripping emotional core make it a memorable watch. Fans of romantic thrillers will appreciate its blend of heartache and suspense, even if the film doesn’t quite break new ground in the genre. This movie available on  Amazon prime video
